Reading MCQ Worksheet 2
1. Read the passage given below and complete the summary by
filling in the appropriate word. Supply only one word for each blank.
A FAITHFUL CREATURE
The best friend of man in this
world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or his daughter, whom
he has reared with loving care, may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and
dearest to us, those whom we trust without doubt, may become traitors. The
money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him perhaps when he needs
it most. A man’s reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered
action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honour when
success is with us, may be the first to throw stone of malice when failure
settles its cloud upon our heads. The one absolutely unselfish friend that man
can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that
never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog.
When riches take wings and
reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love, as the sun in its
journey through the heavens. If circumstances render you friendless, homeless,
the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying you to
guard against danger, to fight against your enemies.

The Gift of Knowing You
There are gifts of many treasures
For both the young and old,
From the tiniest little trinkets
To great boxes filled with gold.
But, put them all together
And they could not stand in lieu,
Of the greatest gift of all
The gift of knowing you.
When your times are filled with troubles
Sadness, grief, or even doubt,
When all those things you planned on
Just aren’t turning out.
Just turn and look behind you
From the place at which you stand,
And look for me through the shadows,
And reach out for my hand.
I will lift from you your burden
And cry for you your tears,
Bear the pain of all your sorrows
Though it may be for a thousand years.

To have helped you start anew,
It’s a small price to pay
